Faith Over Fear: The Power of One Faithful Step

grace obedience waiting May 19, 2025

It wasn’t the first time I left a great career to start something new.

Ten years earlier, I’d walked away from a successful corporate role to become a business owner. That shift stretched me, refined me, and taught me more than I could’ve imagined. But this new leap—this one felt different. This time, I was certain that God was calling me out of comfort and into something deeper.

The Pull of Purpose and the Weight of Fear

Change is a strange thing. Some of us chase it, others avoid it. I’ve always been the former—restless when stagnant, energized by growth. But that doesn’t mean I’m immune to fear.
The in-between seasons—the transitions—are full of uncertainty. Fear creeps in and demands a response: freeze or move forward? Retreat or step out in faith?

When Loss Reshapes Your Life

Back in 2013, I left corporate America without a clear plan, just enough financial clarity to buy some time. I needed space—especially after losing my dad suddenly in 2011. His passing shattered my sense of time and urgency. It forced me to reevaluate my life.
I realized I was chasing roles that looked like the one I had left, even though I no longer felt aligned with that path. That’s when I took a six-month sabbatical to seek something more.

The Power of Three Simple Lists

To get clarity, I made three lists:

  1. What am I great at?
  2. What do I love doing—what brings me alive?
  3. What is my ideal work environment?

The gap between Lists 1 and 2 was eye-opening. And it set me on a path of discovering what I was meant to do—not just what I was skilled at. If you’re wrestling with career direction, I encourage you to try this—and pray through it. Clarity comes through honesty and intentional seeking.

The Unexpected Answer

Eventually, I found a path that checked every box: building a financial planning practice. It didn’t matter that I had no experience in the field—I was ready to learn. Over the next decade, I built a business I was proud of and walked with people through some of life’s most meaningful financial and personal decisions.

A New Call, A New Surrender

Then, ten years later, I heard the call again. Just like before, it came with peace—an inner knowing that God was leading me forward again. Through years of personal struggle, pain, and growth, He was preparing me for the next chapter: Purpose Driven Coaching & Consulting.

Leaving something successful and stable was not easy. But I trusted that God would redeem every hard-earned lesson and use it for something even more meaningful.

Faith Is a Verb

Hebrews 11:1 reminds us that “faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”

But too often, we treat faith like a feeling or belief. The truth? Faith is a verb. It’s something we practice.
Like learning to ride a bike, it feels shaky at first. But the more you act in faith, the more confident—and deeply rooted—it becomes.

The Surrender Test

Most of us have surrendered certain parts of our lives to God, while fiercely clinging to control in others. Want to know which is which?
Look at where you feel peace, joy, and clarity—and where you feel stress, frustration, or stuck. The difference is often surrender.

Just Take One Step

That’s the whole point. You don’t have to take a giant leap—just one faithful step.
God doesn’t need you to have it all figured out. He just asks for your trust. As you move, He moves. He opens doors, connects paths, and provides exactly what you need—often in ways you never saw coming.

What’s Your Next Faith Step?

Maybe it’s a phone call. A prayer. A new list. A bold conversation.
Whatever it is, know this: God will meet you there. He always does.
The more you move toward Him, the more He shows just how trustworthy He truly is.
